ERA gathers for its General Assembly and reinforces members’ fruitful cooperation
On 20–21 May, the European Rabbit Association (ERA) convened in southern Germany to build on the association’s dynamic dialogue and strengthen its collaborative network. The meeting offered an opportunity to take stock of recent legislative developments and exchange insights on current issues in the rabbit breeding and meat sector.
Members were received by Thomas Bauer, President of the Association of German Rabbit Meat Producers who presented the activities of his family’s farm and slaughterhouse. Representatives of the European rabbit meat sector also visited the picturesque city of Schwäbisch Hall, gaining valuable insight into the region’s rich and unique historical heritage.
The city hosted ERA’s General Assembly, providing a forum to review production and consumption data, and reaffirm the sector’s commitment to active engagement in European policymaking. Participants paid particular attention to the proposed revision of the animal transport regulation’s latest developments and anticipated upcoming legislative initiatives.
Furthermore, members adopted the ERA’s one-pager highlighting the numerous and valuable contributions of the sector towards sustainability as well as its requests on the subject. With a significant role to life in rural areas and presence of women, a commitment to environmental sustainability and the production of healthy meat, the European rabbit meat sector is engaged in a balanced and virtuous approach to economic, social, and environmental challenges.
Members are already planning to reconvene in Brussels in November for the association’s next board meeting.
